I get aggravated at the cost of flying anywhere out of Charlotte. Why does it seem that flying out of Greensboro is less expensive? I'll give up my bag of pretzel air for the lower price fair. Does anyone know of other airlines (other than the usual suspects, Delta, US Air, American, United). I will be going to both Las Vegas and Orlando this year.
Actually, the last time the prices were analyzed a couple of months ago, Charlotte was cheapper than Greensboro and Greenville/Spartanburg, partly due to JetBlue, but you have to fly to NYC to fly anywhere with them from CLT. A favorite site of mine is Cheap Airfare and Hotel Rooms on Yahoo! FareChase. Search dozens of travel sites with one click. (http://www.farechase.yahoo.com - broken link) and the prices include ALL taxes and fees (though sometimes yyou may even find flights a few dollars cheaper elsewhere).

It's worth a trip to drive to Raleigh and take Southwest. In fact I have done that several times for a cheap direct flight. I'm still driving to Raleigh for cheap flights even though I live in Myrtle Beach.
I contacted USAir a few weeks ago and was talking to their rep. She told me that the more in advance I book the cheaper the flight, by a SIGNIFICANT amount. If I book 3-4 weeks in advance, my flight from Ft.Lauderdale, FL to Charlotte, non-stop, is around $212, whereas if I book less than a week in advance, its close to $500...
Its also about $20 cheaper if I fly to Miami as opposed to Ft.Lauderdale.

Even Northwest is cheaper out of Raleigh. When I flew out west this summer the fair was $225 less to fly out of Raleigh vs. Charlotte. I connected to the exact same flight in Minneapolis as if I had come from Charlotte. But for $225 X4 people....it was worth the drive.
Usually, the flights to Vegas from Charlotte run through Atlanta.
I've gotten a $400 flight direct from Charlotte to Vegas and about 100-$120 lower through Atlanta.
To me the extra cost is worth the direct...
