Hi,

My husband and I are considering a move to Charlotte--actually, his job would be in Monroe and his commute needs to be under 25 to 30 minutes, but we'd like very much to live in Charlotte.

Are there nice areas to live in the southern end of town that would be an easy/uick commute to Monroe?

We're coming from Philadelphia, and would like to live somewhere that feels "cityish" in that you can walk to shops/restaurants from your home.

Do areas like this exist in Charlotte, or is it more spread out?

Thanks!

Genevieve

Area like that do exist in Charlotte. Uptown Charlotte has a city feel to it. There are a lot of condos, mostly high-rise, in that area. The commute would be a little far to Monroe from Uptown, however.

You should look into the Ballantyne area, particularly around the Ballantyne Commons Shopping Center. It has a neo-urban feel and if you get a place nearby you can walk to the restaurants and shop there.

Genevieve, you are in luck! If you live in south Charlotte your husband will be going AGAINST traffic to get to Monroe for work - lucky him

Nothing out that way will feel very "cityish" because it is the more rural end of things, BUT, you can find some of what you are looking for in the Stonecrest shopping area on Rea Road. There are nice homes and neighborhoods within walking distance of this area along Elm Lane and Ballentyne Commons Parkway. There is a very nice movie theater, bookstore, good restaurants and a Target in this shopping area. Every Friday there is live music which attracts hundreds of people to an area near the restaurants. It can be a great place to meet your friends after work and relax as the sun sets. Good luck to you!
