How many of the honorables on City Council are running or have run a successful business on a scale that would compare to the size of the old Eastland Mall property? They need to leave running a business to those who have experience and stop sticking it to the taxpayers. These are the same type of forward thinkers that gave us the NASCAR arena. The out of town developer who owns this property made a bad investment, but will never admit it. He wants out and the City seems ready to bail out his bad investment.

I don't think "bail out" is really the tone of the talks. it's more of an effort to pull up the entire area, I don't see it as a developer bail out.
This is a great idea & will make money for the city. This is an industry that is getting a toehold in this area & is lacking in this particular aspect. The only studio/soundstage in the area is something in Shelby

City Council doesn't have to run it. This will fall to the film commission. The state will help to promote it. There is a very large facility in Wilmington & an NBC series will come out of that studio.

you are not even comparing apples to oranges, my friend. you are comparing kumquats to cabbage. the ROI is totally different. one is a museum type facility - the other is a money-making venture--with a product.

This is business, not a museum.
Two shows are currently shooting in the area. They have to go elsewhere for post production. This facility would allow them to do the post production here. Did you click on the link that I provided? The regional film commision is very real. This is big bucks & pays decent wages.

yep... I was an extra in a One Tree Hill episode when I lived in Southport. They are also filming some of Ironman 3 in Wilmington. Southport is 30 minutes from Wilmington and we were surprised to see all the hotel parking lots jam packed. The locals were loving it.
It would be great to have film in Charlotte... I wonder if filming the Bachelorette had something to do with the interest in a film studio?
