Does anyone know if there are Happy Hours here at bars/restaurants (drinks only, not food). Someone told me that you aren't allowed to have Happy Hours in NC because it promotes "heavy drinking". Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks.
They are right - no happy hours - most bars have daily specials. The catch is they have those prices all day long instead of a couple of hours. This was put in place to discourage binge drinking.
We have happy hour, it's just not called happy hour. And yes, food is served at these "happy hours" for the reason stated above. Aquafina, Village Tavern, City Tavern, Blue and Zink have good happy hours.
Yes Charlotte has some odd laws. To quote the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Commission's Web site: "Drink specials must be offered from the time the business opens to the time it closes to not be in violation of ABC laws. Free drinks or reduced price drinks cannot be offered during limited hours." That is why you so often see advertisements about drink specials tagged to days of the week, rather than hours. You will see food specials though during normal Happy Hours.

Happy Hours dangerously contribute to drunk driving (as many people would like to take advantage of the special during those short 2 hours and drink too much in such a short amount of time). I'm glad we don't have them here.
And part of Talledega Nights was filmed there "The Pit Stop."
Also, did you hear in Monroe, they just finished up some filming of "April Fool's Day" the remake of the 1986 horror spoof!
