I could not agree more. $4+ per pound is ridiculous in my opinion, too.
I was in Ingles last night (It's their annual 2 week Thanksgiving sale) & I saw 3 brands of fresh turkeys sitting out. Butterball, Honeysuckle White, & a couple of organic turkeys from a farm in PA (Amish was in the brand name ). There were also fresh Butterball turkey breasts. I didn't look at the prices, because that's not something that I'll buy this week, but the fresh Butterball is in the flyer for $1.98 lb.
I realize that most people don't care, but there are some people who are on this board who live out here & a few come out here on business. For those who do come out, having one of the big zippered thermal bags from Trader Joe's and a few icepacks could save them a lot of money over time, picking up perishables whether it's out here at Ingles or another destination out a bit from Charlotte.
ETA: I did some searching online & I
think that the fresh organic turkey was Eberly's. Ingles has sold organic fowl consistantly since I've been here, but the sources have changed several times. They had a farm in GA at one point & I think that another was in TN.
