Will you use the optional toll lanes (Charlotte, Greenville: how much, home)

The state could pick a contractor within a year to convert carpool lanes on Interstate 77 in and near Charlotte to toll lanes for solo drivers. Vehicles with more than one occupant could still use the lanes without paying.

Well, it depends. Will my toll dollars help build a limited access "Express Lane" on I-77 south of uptown? Will it help speed up the construction of I-485? Will it help place lights on our dark freeways?
Or will it be a "new tax" on citizens with absolutely NOTHING given back in return? If so, I'll have to pass on this tax.
I personally don't care what the money is being used for. If I am driving up 77 solo I can't use that lane but I would sometimes pay a small fee to use it depending on how much of a hurry I am in.
The only problem would be buying a ticket for that lane and having someone driving the exact speed limit while drivers in the other lanes are going faster. It may possibly be counterproductive in some cases.
Lexus Lane? Stupid. If people want to spend money to be in that lane, go for it. If they don't, don't. "for being a way for the wealthy a way to avoid congestion" is a ridiculous reason to not build it. Maybe if enough wealthy people drove their Lexuses (Lexii?) in that super entitled lane, the poor people would have less traffic in their underpriveleged lanes.
I think I-485 needs to be done before we take on yet another road project. I don't travel on the highway often enough to comment on the other issues already posted, except the darkness on I-77, but finishing I-485 would be a great idea.

You're not suggesting that access to the HOT lane is a license to speed, are you?
Just like Sepulgeek, I too would like to know how they'd know if there's more than one person in the car? The only time I'm ever up there is driving home with the family. So yes, I would use the lane like I do now, but only when I've got the family of 5 in the car. I would not use it otherwise, and I won't pay to get behind someone who's doing 50- I can do that for free on the other lanes.
I wouldn't. But I was out in CA recently travelling north of San Diego and saw the toll lanes that increased prices when the traffic was bad. Thought it was a pretty good idea for people in a hurry. I think for cars with more than one person it was still free.
