How often do you change the filters in your house? Do you do it yourself or is it part of a maintenance program you have in place?

What kind of maintenance program do you have...frequency and cost?

Default changing filters every 3 months

I change my 3 filters myself every 3 months. the cost of the filters are about $ 5 dollars a piece. I get mine at walmart. 2 different sizes . I have no pets so I do not need to change often.

I would not pay for someone to change filters. they are easy to change.

Just do it yourself. Change filters every 4 months and you should be fine.

I've done a maintenance program through a couple of the larger local AC companies. My opinion is that it's not worth the monthly fee. I could schedule 2 maintenance calls a year and pay less than the fees added up to. Any time I've needed service outside of maintenance, the discounts per the agreement never seemed to add up to much.

I currently have a permanent air filter on my furnace that needs to be washed monthly. However, when I managed an apartment complex, we had the maintenance guy go in and change the furnace filters in every apartment monthly. We also had a monthly exterminator go in. That way, we not only got those items taken care of (preserving the life of the furnace, etc) but we were able to keep an eye on the property, too. (this was predisclosed in an addendum to the lease, so, everyone was aware that this was going to happen)

I also try to do at least one capital improvement on my home each year. Some years, that cannot happen due to financial issues, but, then I make it up when I can.
