It's as safe as any other well maintained bus service.

For those prices I'd buy two seats if I were traveling alone, and have some room to stretch out.

We had a friend visit us from Raleigh on Megabus...think he paid like $2 round trip or something crazy. He said it was nice!

I have never ridden the megabus but was intrigued by the concept and so Googled it. Here's an article written by someone who has ridden the bus in NC. There seems to be good and bad with this form of transport. However there was no trouble on the bus.

Riding the bus was fine. I wouldn't feel comfortable if a female was getting on / off the bus at night without someone there to escort her. The area for pick-up is not well lit and is outside the depot. (That was the case when I rode the bus December around Christmas). But you can't beat it for the price. Cheaper than the cost of gas in a fuel efficient car in most cases.
