I just learned that I may be coming to Charlotte for a project that's expected to last about 3 months. Project may start as soon as 11/15, and I'm supposed to make a decision on a place to stay relatively quickly (e.g., within the next day or 2). Thus the reason for this post: choosing a place to stay. I'm currently looking at 2 neighborhoods: South Park and South End. Both are equidistant from the area where I will be working (in a warehouse facility about 10 miles away from each). In South Park, I'm looking at The Residence Inn South Park on Piedmont and The Doubletree Guest Suites on Morrison. In South End, I'm looking at the Millenium /The South End (a furnished corporate apartment on S. College Street). I initially was only looking at places in South Park, as it sounds nice, safe, upscale, has a great mall, good restaurants, and based on what I read, if I choose to get my exercise via a walk in the great outdoors, seems like that wouldn't be a problem (if that's inaccurate, please advise). That said, upon further consideration, the Millenium South End also sounds like a viable alternative. A little about me: female, 44, currently live in LA (santa monica), professional (attorney), I walk alot (down by the beach, around our very safe neighborhood (santa monica / brentwood), I shop a lot (upscale malls, boutiques in beverly hills and santa monica), I work a lot and while I love to go out to great restaurants and bars, work seems to often take precedent over a social life. Weekends when I'm not working, I like to walk around Santa Monica (shopping, perusing bookstores), drive to Bev Hills (all of 8 miles away) for more of the same, meet a friend or 2 for dinner / drinks, movies. For my stay while in Charlotte, I'm not concerned about things like having killer places to go out after work (not that i don't like to go out, but if i do get to leave the office at a reasonable hour, my typical MO is to hit the gym, head home and work from there, or chill in front of the TV or curl up with a good book). And for weekends, I'd be happy if I could engage in the above-described activities (shopping (upscales stores for clothes, jewelry), bookstores, working out / going on walks, maybe driving around to do a little sight-seeing/check out a museum, movies, maybe a yummy restaurant). SO: Any thoughts / suggestions for whether I should stick with initial idea (South Park) vs after-thought (South End)? And if anyone knows anything about the actual places I mentioned (Residence Inn South Park, DoubleTree Guest Suites Southpark, The Millenium / The South End), I'd greatly appreciate it!! Please note that I'm not looking for additional suggestions on places to stay in both areas; rather, just looking for comments/thoughts on the 2 neighborhoods and/or on the 3 establishments I mentioned. Oh, and 1 other thing: given the fact that I need to decide this issue within the next day or so, the sooner anyone can respond, the better. Thanks in advance to anyone / everyone who responds.

I think you'd be very happy in both places. SouthPark Mall is surprisingly upscale. I'm always impressed. But you'd be close to it in both places as both are relatively close to each other. Both are close to lots of great restaurants and bars. Bottom line might be a coin toss and you should be pleased either way. Enjoy!

I'd give the nod to South End. It seems everything is more confined to a small area. My boss lives in Dilworth and he walks everywhere he wants to go. Only a few blocks from everything.

I love Santa Monica. I'm tempted to tell you SouthPark, but if you enjoy things more urban then go for South End. South End has a TON of potential, but it isn't quite reaching it yet (my opinion). However, it has a great feel.
Can you switch after you're here and able to get a better vibe?

Southpark would be the safer bet because I am almost positive you would be happy there and you really can't go wrong. Southend is a little more risky because you might either love it or hate it.

I agree with Southpark. Also - there is a nice express YMCA on Piedmont Row for workouts.

South Park has more of what you need and desire for your stay. South End is more urban, with a mix of restaurants and condos. Not much retail in South End yet. The only plus to South End is the access to light rail for trips to Uptown; but there are several park & ride lots close to South Park.
