Put a MLB dome in the place where Eastland mall is. Have lightrail connecting to it. Increase lanes on 74 would help a little it is the busiest hwy in the Carolina's. Make 74 a interstate as much as possible. Except towards Matthews in maybe difficult because of developments. Charlotte owes it to east Charlotte. Locals say east Charlotte was the place to be 15 years ago until the city neglected it.

Hwy 74 (Independence Blvd) needs to be upgraded to a freeway all the way out to 485 as soon as possible. With all of the explosive growth going on in Union County, the traffic is only going to increase. Charlotte needs to have an east-west freeway.

I've noticed that in Matthews most of the businesses are already located several feet away from the highway as if they are anticipating the eventual freeway upgrade. For the part in Charlotte that's not a freeway yet, I think they should put frontage roads on the sides and three lanes in each direction (not sure if there's enough room though).

I know that back in the 60s/70s North Carolina wanted the US 74 corridor to be part of an Interstate highway that ran between Charlotte and Wilmington but the Federal govt said no. Looks like they're trying to build it now anyway with I-74 so maybe we can get a spur route someday. Could drive from Charlotte to the beach in no time.
