I know it seems like a lot of $ but unfortunately that is about par for the Charlotte area and any other big metro city. DC, Chicago Charleston --everyone I know in those towns pay at least $250/wk per child. I am very lucky in Hickory. We are about 1 hr from Charlotte. My husband and I both work. The money we make here is the equivalent of what we would make in Charlotte doing similar jobs. Housing isn't significantly more and we have more choices in Charlotte.
However I pay only $260/wk TOTAL for 2 kids full time in the best daycare in the county. I would pay that MINIMUM per kid at a decent daycare in Charlotte....more for better academic ones/extra programs like Spanish, music etc...
When I called around last month for South Charlotte and Fort Mill the wait lists for 2 and 4 yr olds were 1+ year long. SO I couldn't have even had my kids START at a good school in a few months if not EVER.
Hubby is looking at a job transfer to Charlotte and I can't make the math work to have a job. I work part time ~30/hrs and take care of all the dr appts, errands, household problems in the mornings before I go in.
I hate the idea of not working because I get a lot of fulfillment and enjoyment out of it. My kids love going to school. I have asked them on several occasions if they wanted to stay home with mommy but they always say they want to go to school and play with their friends. I can teach them things but I am not good at the creative stuff!
