For those that remember the Charleston House, this is a big improvement asthetically.

The newly renovated hotel — formerly the Charleston House Hotel — features 176 guest rooms and suites, 12,000 square feet of meeting facilities, full-service dining and all the other amenities know to Four Points guests worldwide
This was much needed, and a nice addition to Charleston's hotel scene. Maybe this will get the ball rolling for the Embassy to strike next with some upgrades, as the Marriott has already taken on a large renovation project of it's main lobby.

Prior to re-opening as a Four Points, the 12-story hotel, built in 1966, fully renovated all guest rooms, meeting rooms and public areas, refurbished the exterior and added the Recovery Sports Grill and an indoor pool.
It would be great if Four Points would buy the Pullman Plaza Hotel in Huntington and renovate it top to bottom like this as well.
I've been watching the outer renovations for a long time now. I drive past it every day. It really looks a lot better. I remember back in the 70's that the restaurant on the top floor, the Top of the Inn, was THE place to go for a celebration dinner. The place has needed a redo for a long time.
It certainly looks better than it ever did when I was growing up there - but I do have to ask... when folks look at the facade now, doesn't it have a, "Box within a box within a box", look to it? Again, anything is better than what was there for so long in terms of appearance, but just curious if anyone else finds the new design a bit "boxy" in front?

haha, yes, i believe you are on to something here. Maybe Sheraton hired a team that used to paint those Russuan Nesting Egg Dolls?!
Definitely an improvement, but I'm disappointed they didn't move the canopy. It was supposed to have a nice swoop to it and be off-set at the front as to line up with the decorative pavement and entrance to the park.

That sure would balance things out. Maybe that is something they are still planning to change?
I like the look of the exterior, it really helps the appearance of the city along the river.
elewis, I agree with you about the canopy but I can live with it the way it is considering how much better the building looks overall. Hopefully it is something that will be changed in the future but if not, so be it.
Job well done by the owners and the construction company.
