Hey there! I just got a new kitten yesterday and I'm wondering what breed it is. I suspect it's a mix, but I'm wondering if Maine Coon is part of that mix?
Here are some pictures:
Edit: Forgot to mention, he's a very young kitten now. Not sure how old, though.
maine coons get pretty big; if your kitten gets big at a young age, then there's a good chance there's some maine coon in him. but it's hard to tell when they're very young.
I'd say probably not, no long tufts in the ears, no snowshoes on the feet...those are the 2 easiest signs of MC....whatever he's made of...he's a dollbaby. Makes me want another kitten....if only they'd stay small......
Hey! Thanks for all of the great responses! He's a great little kitten..I wish I knew what breed he is, haha. He's got medium puffy fur that sticks off his ears. Maybe I should post again in a few weeks to see what you guys think? I suspect he's 6-8 weeks old, but he has rather large paws.
If not a Maine Coon, what type of cat may he be? Do you think he'll have longish hair?
Yours will have a medium length coat...and as mentioned he would probably be labeled a brown tabby. His coloring is about the only match to a Maine Coon. What have you named the little guy?
His name is Baird, because he's a chatter, haha. I thought he had a classic tabby pattern? And he's silver. Here are some more pictures ( cellphone for scale), I could swear he's younger than 12 weeks.
He could be...it is hard to tell from the pics...A vet will be able to give you a better idea of how old when he takes a look at his teeth. His color will also most likely darken as he grows older and those stripes will come in darker as well.
