It's a good sign that he feels safe in a place that must (to him) smell like you. Keep talking to him, and let spring come and see where you are. Did you blink back at him?
Something else is that when we got our cat, we think the shelter was all women fostering and socializing the cats. She (our cat) liked my husband and ran from anyone else male for a little while. Even with the H, he took a nap one day and she walked up and down him, getting a good sniff, possibly wondering why he was a little different from all the other nice people she knew.
Yes, I did blink back at him. He is so deep into the bed that you wouldn't find him if you didn't know you were looking for him. I didn't have a chance to get more specialized kibble today, but put a few kernels underneath where he is. He's still under the bed.
Yes, this is a very positive development. I know all this has been taking longer than it should, but it wouldn't surprise me if the kitten makes it to the top of the bed within 2 weeks. Maybe sooner - imagine waking up Christmas morning to a purring kitten on the bed.
He seems to be going back and forth between the bed and his hole. He's dragging toys from place to place. He seems to sleep in the bedroom and gets up around 6 - I hear rustling under the bed.
He hasn't come out with me around yet, but is eating better and doesn't seem scared when I check on him under the bed.

You are winning him over! Please stay patient and you will have a great buddy. In addition, you will be proud of yourself for going above and beyond and possibly be saving him from being killed at a shelter.

Sounds to me like the fact he's playing with some toys seems to be a sign he's starting to get at least somewhat comfortable?
