OP, the New Yorker published a long feature article on the redwoods and scientists who study them by climbing up them with special equipment. There are whole ecosystems up there in the treetops. There's a whole world of animal and birdlife, and plantlife, that humans never see, except for the guys who go up there with a complex system of cables and such. The article included a full-length photo of one of the taller trees, and the fold-out extended for about 6 pages! It's worth looking up. Was about 10 years ago.Your public library should have a copy.
