Gay friendly places are places where gay people and gay households are accepted as normal, unremarkable parts of the community. They may have passed gay rights ordinances, though a fair bit of that has been superseded by state laws in California. They either voted against Prop. 8 or voted for it by a close margin, showing that many people opposed it. Their churches aren't buzzing with sermons denouncing the evils of homosexuality. Kids in their schools aren't harassed because they have two moms or two dads (and if kids are harassed, the school intervenes and deals with it). In the Bay Area, the gay population seems to be still more concentrated in the center of the region--San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley--though the Census doesn't about this. But there certainly are at least some gay households that have moved to various Bay Area suburbs for pretty much the same reasons as straight ones do, so they obviously feel that those communities are adequately gay friendly.

Guerneville is a good place but it does flood every 3-5 years, that's why I have never moved to Guerneville. I also want a smaller AFFORDABLE TOWN near the coast of California or Oregon, I do need to own my own business or the town has to have jobs. Any suggestions would be great. We could also start our own town.

The only reasonably affordable coastal towns would be on the North Coast - Humboldt and Del Norte counties. They're kind of isolated from the rest of the state though - takes a long time to drive anywhere else.

This thread is almost 10 years old, and dormant for about 5 1/2 years.

I always scratch my head when somebody revives a dead thread. I always think "can't they read the date on the last post?" and/or "THAT is what they felt so important they revived the thread?" And in this case : "You created an account and this is your first post ... on a 10 year old thread?!!?"

Seriously, CAN'T you people read and understand a date?

Totally agree. No doubt the op has since moved to his or her new location 9 years ago.
