Me and my fiance are considering moving to California from FL and we just aren't sure if it will be the right place for us. We thought moving to FL would be nice but we just hate it here in so many ways.
We just want to find a yearly rental house somewhere more liberal, an hour away from the beach or closer, affordable, and safe. We have no kids. We make about 50k-70k a year working from home. We want to be in south California because of the warmer weather and have been looking at around Temecula, Bakersfield, Riverside, Suncity, San Jancito. If anyone has any opinions on those cities or any other suggestions then i would greatly appreciate the info, Thanks!

Bakersfield is of course known for their great beaches. And Oildale is the most liberal section of town. You might be the richest there even. Don't buy the big trailer, they will be jealous.

Actually that's a good suggestion for an OP apparently from Clearwater, FL, since as anyone familiar with Florida can tell 'ya, Clearwater is basically Bakersfield with a Gulf coastline!

Thought I detected a Tampa OP in there somewheres.

OP should go to the LA sub-forums and speak to PDF who just relocated to LA from Tampa. I'm sure he can handle this just fine.

Temecula and Riverside would be decent choices for you.

Well, I've decided to turn it inside out. With the understanding that Bakersfield isn't close to the beach, or liberal, really. But it takes all kinds and you will find all kinds in Bakersfield as anywhere.

If I were to move back to Bakersfield I think I'd take up in the northeast out towards Rio Bravo CC. If that's to much for the budgie, north of 178 and south of the Kern River works ok in east BF, and around Bakersfield College. Or NW Bakersfield which is pretty new development I think. Just stay clear of Oildale.

I think there's some pretty decent condos along Panorama Drive which overlooks the Kern River a bit. Nice views.
