We are attending a wedding in Eureka the last weekend in June, we're from Seattle and have never been there, so I need some ideas of what exactly there is to do.

Are the beaches nice? We are a couple in our late 20's with an almost 3 year old and a 5.5 year old.

Any and all suggestions are helpful, we'll have 2-3 days there, and are willing to drive up to an hour for really fun stuff.

If you get a chance to, you must visit Ferndale, it is a victorian village with some beautiful victorian architecture. It is the town featured in " Majestic " with Jim Carey. All the beach's are easy to get to from Ferndale at Centerville beach all the way to Moonstone beach north of McKinleyville. If it is hot, there are several rivers inland to cool off in; Mad River, Trinity River, Eel River and Klamath River. There is also an abundance of redwood parks all over. A trip north on 101 to Crescent City is only about 85 miles from Eureka and most of it hugs the coast like highway 1 does. The views are phenomenal. There is a quant old red school house along 101 north of Trinidad called the Old Stone Lagoon School House, frequently during the summer there will be elk along the highway and at the grounds surrounding the school house. Our biggest attraction is our natural ones. Here are pictures of the school house, the elk and Trinidad head from Vista point above Clam Beach. Go on google earth and check out the area for parks and beach's.

One of our favorite places to visit when we are in Eureka is Patrick's Point State Park. Its about 30 miles north of Eureka. Great hiking trails, etc. Your kids are little so they would love the little zoo in Eureka. I think its called Sequoia Zoo. We also liked the Avenue of Giants. The Chamber of Commerce has a great website: Eureka Chamber of Commerce (http://www.eurekachamber.com/home.cfm - broken link)

The Visitor and convention bureau has a website too, with a calendar of events that might be just what you are looking for. For little kids, the Zoo for sure, and the Discovery Museum in Old Town Eureka. They might also enjoy the bay cruise on the little old Madaket. The Chamber has a buiiding on your left as you enter town from the south, where you can get advice and every brochure from every attraction. You'll run out of time before you run out of things to do. Enjoy!
