"But in preparation for a surge in cases, the Italian Senate last week approved Prime Minister Conte’s request to prolong the country’s state of emergency until October 15, allowing him greater flexibility in ordering localized lockdowns or imposing new targeted measures. Greece has made masks mandatory in shops and in all public buildings."
A localized lockdown, as the NYT mentioned as well, is certainly less disruptive than a nationwide one and makes more sense. CA seems to like to do the opposite.

Huh? CA has a color coded process where restrictions can be lifted county by county: https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/08/...irus-pandemic/

So, no, its not a one size fits all here.

Yeah now. The whole "watchlist" was also localized but then Newsom issued sweeping statewide shutdowns and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't that again even with the color coded system.

You mean bars? Yeah, brilliant idea to allow these to open where people will congregate in close quarters indoors, often without wearing masks.

And restaurants indoors, indoor malls, salons/barbershops (again one of the most hygienic industries), movie theaters, entertainment centers, museums, gyms, OFFICES, etc...

Many of these types of businesses are allowed to re-open once the county case count drops from purple to red for a period of 14 days.

If that takes another 6 months or 9 months you're okay with that?

I am aware of that. I was simply mentioning all the additional businesses besides bars that were closed in Newsom's statewide shutdown back in July. Not sure why that was the only type of business you mentioned there. Again I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same thing again even with the color coded system just like he did with the "watchlist" system.

I think he and the administration are learning what works and what doesn't. It is a balancing act between controlling COVID spread and providing flexibility to businesses and consumers. I don't knock him for being a bit more assertive in closures for trying to keep us all safe. I'd much rather do this vs the free for all as we are seeing from the governors in GA and FL. That is truly scary.

Not arguing granular decisions in general re: which types of businesses should or shouldn’t be allowed open ... but you’ve brought this up a couple times about how salons/barbershops are so “hygienic” ... while true, Covid 19 is an airborne threat, not a surface, tactile infection danger. The hygienics of salons/barbershops is surface cleanliness ... not air purification.
