The averages I presented are meaningful because there are plenty of people who live in other parts of Orange County, or LA and Riverside counties that commute to Irvine for work or vice versa.

Similarly, there are plenty of people who live in other parts of Sacramento County and Placer, Yolo, and El Dorado counties that commute to Sacramento city for work or vice versa.

This whole thread is a bit of a straw man argument because:

Irvine (a city within Orange County) is more comparable to the cities of Folsom, Roseville, and Davis all cities within the Sacramento Metro. And, within the context of Orange County, Sacramento is more comparable to the cities of Anaheim and Santa Ana.

Median Family Income(MFI)and Median Home Value(MHV)

Folsom: MFI: $116,527; MHV: $548,500
Davis: MFI: $110,692; MHV: $680,700
Irvine: MFI: $109,956; MHV: $866,400 - and this includes a larger percentage of condos.
Roseville: MFI: $94,461; MHV: $452,900

Median Family Income and Median Home Value

Anaheim: MFI: $63,281; MHV: $596,800
Sacramento: MFI: $57,200; MHV: $321,900
Santa Ana: MFI: $50,505; MHV: $545,900

Used wikipedia for Income and Zillow for Median Home Value

I’m not seeing it.

Although I have never visited Sacramento, I must say that from what I've read, it does sound like an interesting place, with varied architectural styles, a number of housing options, interesting restaurants, lots of trees/parks, a river, a diverse population, and close proximity/easy access to other large recreational venues.

The downsides, beyond occasionally intense summer heat, seem to be what you would expect to find in just about any older mid-large urban area. No surprises there.

However, stats do not suggest that Sacramento is wealthy, and pretentiousness is both yawn-inducing and worthy of eye-rolling.

I'm generalizing here but traditionally this has been true:
The OC culture is more about showing-off your wealth with fancy clothes, fancy cars, name dropping, you know the type.

NorCal/Sac culture leans towards modesty, its not "cool" to flash your wealth. We are less likely to care about what's fashionable and what's not and we don't spend our money that way.
El Dorado Hills is VERY flashy. Big houses, gated communities, and country clubs everywhere.

Rather would live in Anaheim where I do live.

Besides UCI, the view of Saddleback is one of Irvine's premier natural amenities.

I prefer Sacramento.
Chim, meet Jester.

Surprisingly short response to this comparison.

Normally, you'd be giving information on everything from history to ladybugs per square mile to
nocturnal wind speeds in mid-August to shore up arguments as to how awesome a certain place (ahem) is.

That $$$ argument is the straightest shot of them all, though Sactown definitely does not get all its props.

I think these comparisons are beginning to get silly, unless one is really trying to get to know a place by way of contrast, rather than treating it and another as contestants in a beauty pageant or popularity contest.

Saying Irvine has no arts is like saying Irvine has no airport. Strictly speaking, that is correct. There is no airport in Irvine. But the airport is literally ACROSS the STREET from Irvine in Santa Ana.

I have no idea if the arts scene is better in Sacramento than Irvine. Perhaps it is. But the problem, if there is one, is not that Irvine "has no arts and music" because the Performing Arts Center is 2 miles on the other side of an invisible city boundary line.
Actually, the airport is on unincorporated county land. Yes, it did use to be called Santa Ana Air Field,

but just saying.

You mean wealthy. Flashy would be the Sunset Strip or any urban area at night, lit up in neon or LEDs.

I don't think El Dorado Hills's country club is sporting neon or having cosmic bowling on Saturday nights.
