Hehe "emerald" California waters.

You know, because all the people who visit the Caribbean are like, wow if only we could be in Laguna beach. Next we might hear that the weather in Barstow is far superior because it's in California and a dry heat!

Wonder why the beachboys didn't sing later on about Point Reyes or Morro bay? You know why? Because they eventually traveled the world and said oh my Lord the beaches in the gulf/Florida/Caribbean are out of California league.

There's a bit of isolation out there CA in that folks don't really know what the rest of the country is like and why Bahamas and so forth are the preferred beach travel spots, not La jolla. Though we do love La Jolla.

What the hell are you talking about dude? I was comparing Galveston Beach and Laguna Beach. Never did I mention the Carribean or any tropical beaches. Never did I say California had tropical features either.

You object because I used to world emerald, but Laguna Beach does have a greenish tint to the water & different shades of color. Here is a raw, unfiltered aerial image of LB:

Nice warm water. Is that you refreshing yourself in there? Couldn't tell for all the people clearly enjoying it.

Say, does 60 degree water really refresh anyone?

Is that Emerald Bay? I wouldn't know because that's a gated community and only the elite can enjoy that beach.

Actually, 85 degree beach water feels surprisingly cool on a hot and humid day. Much cooler than shower water. Just got to try it!

Hmmm... you're saying there's hardly any authentic Mexican food in Houston, where 44% of the population is Hispanic. The health picture is more complicated: In-N-Out comes from California, Whole Foods comes from Texas.

West Austin is very hilly. Houston is very flat, but unremarkable? Not with those mighty majestic longleaf pine forests, bayous, spanish moss, and bald cypress.

Well yeah, Gaspar de Portola walked through Irvine in 1769 but no one's saying Irvine has cool history.

I love South Orange County, but the Gulf Coast does rival, if not exceed, it in many respects.

Agreed! Some people in California have never even been outside of the state. Even if they have, it's some other Western states, which largely resemble California climate/scenery-wise.

Some people in California actually think living in San Bernardino or Stockton is far superior than an upscale suburb of Houston like The Woodlands!

You point out all these great places and. I won't argue they are not, but how often do you go there?
California has beautifull coastlines, but living in the Bay Area I hardly ever went.
Your comparison of what is physically existing in both states is fair. But the point is does it really affect your quality of life? Are you going to these places every day and enjoying them? If so I will give you California is better.
But don't you work?
If so how much time is actually spent at these wonderful places? Many are a days drive away. Just because they fall with the state lines doesn't mean you have access and use of them everyday. If you want to go to lassen for a walk one night how do you do it? It's nine hours away from you. So what does that matter if it's in the state of California where you live.
Many things you point out are just as much of a distance for people in California as they are for me.
Live in San Francisco and want to go to Disneyland? Same travel time for me to go to Disney world in Orlando.
From some reason you are equating being in the state as easy access.
California is nearly 800 miles long. If you want to make a fair comparison. Try looking at places to visit and things to do with 800 miles of Atlanta . One can go to the Florida keys, Everglades, Louisiana bayous, Chicago, Appalachia mountains just to name a few.
The point is all these places you list in California as wonderful as they are have counterparts that are wonderful too. California does not have a monopoly on great places to visit.

In my day to day life I do certain things, need access to certain things, enjoy certain things. Everything I used and had access to in all my years of living in California I have access to here in Georgia.
The other 10 percent I am missing is weather. But as I explained in my long response to nomoresnowforme it really comes down to 3 months in the summer. But remember all the people that flaunt the great weather in California live in certain areas. Living in the desert areas or in Redding California the summer heat is just as brutal as Georgia. May not have the humidity, but it is hotter. In both cases it it uncomfortable to go outside and do things for most people.

So,let's look at what you do 90 percent of your life, not your vacations and weekends. All the places you want to go spend a week at I can easily spend a week there too. Because of my financial advantage I can actually spend more time enjoying those places than you can. But I've lived in California longer than you have, I don't need to see the same places over and over. I'll use the extra money to see the rest of the world.
Exactly! Some people love Sacramento because it is only 90 minutes from San Francisco and 2 hours from Lake Tahoe. So what? Atlanta is 2 hours away from Chattanooga, not to mention has far more attractions in town than Sacramento.

Nice pivot! You would make a great politician. Let's just ignore the color of the water because it makes you look foolish & talk about the water temperature.

Have you ever been to the beaches in CA? Let's just the water temp doesn't stop LOTS AND LOTS of people of enjoying the beach and getting in the water. Children, teens, & adults.

And yes, it is refreshing.

PS The current Water Temp in Laguna Beach is 72 degrees, not 60. The average is 67, but it's not uncommon for it to be 70 like today during the summer.

Well so many people are leaving now that word is out. You literally cannot go to many states without seeing CA people everywhere. When Orange county was cheap, boy did it make sense. You got a nice beach - albeit cold and the water not really usable for much. But you got your moneys worth.

When OC is a million for a starter home it's just not worth it. OC should be 300-500k for a house near the beach. After all you can't go 20 miles inland without being in poor, harsh conditions and the ocean water is not usable for much recreation. Therefore the gulf may be undervalued given a person could live right on the water for 150k. You might have crime issues and job issues at that price, like in Pensacola for example. Ft Myers was very cheap so it will be interesting to see in 50 years how this imbalance corrects. Coastal Cal is about doubly overvalued for what it offers.

I'd have $500 you don't live in CA. Do yourself a favor and don't plan a trip in your speedo and splash fins at any beach in CA. If you do, don't say I didn't warn you. It's like those baywatch tourist that come to ca - the actors union would have slapped OSHA fines for doing all that in CA cold water. Boy do they got a shock.
