A few other old threads come up on the search for Redding.

I like Chico, some people say it is crime ridden, but I don't think it is as bad as they make out, I feel safe walking the streets at night & I am an old lady, the worst I've seen is a college kid puke after too much to drink, & a few homeless.
I've came across several threads for Redding, but I mostly just skimmed through them. I may have to take a second look through them.

THE cheapest county in California ever. For me, this one interests me a bit more.
I can tell you about California Pines. I passed by there a couple years ago coming back from Oregon. I wanted to drive by after recalling all the Erik Estrada commercials over a decade ago. It's pretty much a ghost town. All the unsold lots are still there, the "recreation center" is pretty much done. I got pulled over by CHP while speeding (40 in a 25 zone)...he was very nice and didn't give me a ticket. I told him why I was there and he told me the story about California Pines (it helped I was in my clean 1979 BMW). Google "California Pines Erik Estrada" and you'll find articles about it. I didn't go into Alturas but didn't really want to.

You know, I checked that place out, too, & yeah, it was pretty dismal. Glad I didn’t encounter the CHP. I didn’t really encounter anyone, it was surreal.

Brandon, FWIW, Lassen Co. in far Northern California is beautiful & very remote.

Chico is a neat town, I knew a lot of people who went to school there.

Eureka & Arcata are not as bad as some posters are making them sound. Those towns have the same issues that most places do now, a lot of homeless, panhandlers, but they also have access to the redwoods, which are truly a gift to the world. Put them on your bucket list. My neighbor’s kid attended HSU for a specialized major there & got a great job.

I don’t about Nevada Co., but I have relatives in Placerville, which I think is El Dorado Co. They love it, lots to do there, but it gets really hot in summer. You can easily head to Sacramento or Tahoe from there.

Oh, since you asked, my school team mascot was the Boron Bull*******s.

Redding broke a heat record this year.. Redding sets record for 100-degree days this year We also broke a record of the number over days at 110 or higher iirc. The hottest I've seen it was 120 at my home in North Redding. The temperature is measured further south at the airport which is typically a bit cooler than the north end of town.

I also agree with evening sun. Chico gets a bit of a bad rep but I've never had any bad experiences there and I go to Chico quite often. It certainly is MUCH safer than Redding!

Is the crime in Redding, Red Bluff, Anderson, Weed, Clearlake, Alturas, Ukiah, Eureka, Crescent City, Gridley, Oroville, and Grass Valley really that high? Or is it just exaggerated?

Redding has 6th worst car theft rate nationwide - KRCR

Note these are older articles. Since then crime has risen even higher. I can tell you on average that Redding Police file 260 reports PER DAY that are actually record. There are many people who don't even bother to call the police for home robberies and assaults because of the slow response of LE. Gun sales are increasing, particularly with women and classes for concealed weapons permits are quickly filled due to the high numbers of sexual predators in the area. In fact we had a sign outside the city limits welcoming people to Shasta County home of the largest number of sex offenders in the state!

I want to tell you that I often am in contact with members of RPD and other LE officers due to my job and they are very frustrated with the current situation at hand and the increase in crime particularly due to the current drug laws and the new law that increased petty theft from $400 to $950.

Okay, so recently I just started to become more fascinated with NorCal (past San Francisco, of course) (by researching and viewing online images).

So... What can YOU tell me about the following NorCal counties: Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Plumas, Shasta, Tehama, Trinity, Lake, Glenn, Butte, Colusa, Yuba, Sierra, and Nevada? Anything? Any cities or towns in any of these aforementioned NorCal counties that are of any interest? Any sort of info on this is absolutely welcomed!

One thing I've read is that the meth and property crime in Clearlake and Orland is pretty bad. Is it really THAT bad?

After all, the city is always more dangerous than out in the country, right?

What are the cheapest towns in any of these NorCal counties mentioned?

I read that it can get quite hot in the summer (100-115°F, maybe even 120°F) in some of those counties (Lake, Tehama, Modoc, etc.), but that's okay, because I actually enjoy the heat.

Which parts of Modoc and Lassen Counties are within the Great Basin Desert?

I have also read that Eureka, Red Bluff, Anderson, Grass Valley, Oroville, Redding, Gridley, Clearlake, Ukiah, Yreka, Chico, Crescent City, and Corning were listed in the Top 100 Most Unsafe Cities in California last year.

I've also read that most major shopping, entertainment, medical facilities, etc. are quite a drive.

Which of these aforementioned NorCal counties is the cheapest/most expensive (from cheapest to most expensive)? If I have to guess, I would imagine that Mendocino County is the most expensive, while Modoc County is likely the cheapest.

I plan to relocate to any of these counties in NorCal either once I get a bit older and start my own family, or once I begin to retire.

One of these days, I would LOVE to take a trip up to those counties in NorCal to just explore and see for myself! I sure am missing out, aren't I?

I welcome any sort of information for any of these NorCal counties mentioned (and possibly any cities/towns in any of those regions as well)

SO... to recap, what can any of YOU tell me about any of these counties in NorCal I mentioned? Like I said, ANY sort of info is absolutely welcomed!

Any answers and insights are greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!
For some, the hope is one day those counties are part of the future state of........ Jefferson
