Hi, moving to Fresno, looking for an apartment. Safety is the main concern, budget is not a concern. I've been looking in Woodward Park, but it seems like many burglaries take place there. Are there any apartment buildings in Fresno with doormen or security on site? It seems like burglaries take place everywhere, but what are the safest neighborhoods in terms of burglaries? Or are there any apartment buildings where burglaries never or hardly take place? Thanks a lot.

Well good to see another person moving to Fresno soon. I have been looking for places in Fresno, the area that I found seems to be nice and safer (I think) is the river mark area around Route 41 where they have that big shopping mall, with restaurants, movie theater, and other things. I have looked at apartments in that area (online only) they seem like the nicer part of Fresno. I plan on only being there year maybe year and a half so I will prob end up staying in those extended stay studio places near the river mark area. You could look for apartments with a gated community? I found few of those when i was searching, they are more expensive, but it comes with added security.

Hope this helps.

I love the thread title, cause it's true you will need help here. There are several prisons in Central California and with AB109 the state is releasing tens of thousands of inmates into the streets and crime has gone up exponentially (check any stat source, Fresno PD crime report is a good one to verify this) so these "low level" offenders are those who commit property and drug crimes, so home burglaries, car thefts (we are number 1 in the entire nation), property crimes etc so nowhere here is truly safe and the wealthier areas north of Herndon only become all that more a target so don't move here if you can help it, seriously.

So, to be sure, the best area to live in Fresno seems to be, from what I read, the NE area, right? North of Shaw, Clovis...?
I am moving to the valley in January, gonna work in Traver. Wonder if I have to settle in Fresno or Visalia?
I have a job insured, but my wife doesnt... so we bet Fresno offers more opportunities, doesnt it?

Thanks for your feedbacks !

Visalia makes more sense - a lot closer to your work. Yes, Fresno is bigger, but Visalia is not a small town. I bet your wife will have no more issue finding work there than Fresno - actually Visalia has a lot lower unemployment rate. Plus its a nicer community in general (that's subjective though).

Unemployment rate in Fresno is 12.3 %
Unemployment rate in Visalia is 8.7%

Traver is closer to Visalia and Visalia is generally cleaner and nicer...

OK, all the guys I have been talking to during the interview told me they were living in Visalia. I was wondering, but I get to understand why...
We have housing insured for the first 45 days, should be enough to get our point of view.
What would then be the nicest area to live in Visalia?

Sorry for asking, but what about public transportation between Visalia-Traver-Fresno and back? Any chance I can get something? Or I gonna have to buy my own car?

Thanks everyone for your help!

This is the Central Valley everything is spread out, there's no public trans to Traver... you will definitely need a car. Fresno is #1 in the nation for car thefts - we don't arrest car thieves anymore, very high crime rate... almost anywhere in Visalia will be better than Fresno in general
