They're probably going to Mexico where all the jobs are.

I'm going to community college right now and I too plan to go to college somewhere else, out of state. Every year it's always something, their cutting funding, the schools are cutting programs, and i'm just sick of it.

#1 daughter went to University of Hawaii, tuition was 1/3 that of Cal Poly.

#2 daughter solved the cost problem by getting a full ride to Cal Poly.

So cruel..... I got to thinking about Western Pilgrim, aren't them religious people supposed to show a Christ like spirit of love, instead of all this sour and critical stuff?

I like to know where they are going? I met one a Asian guy this weekend at a First Robotics get together who was a UC Berkley Grad, not recent, moved here a year ago. Told me aside from the better affordability in the Greater Miami Metro area, the job market and lack of tech work was not very reassuring for future job opps not withstanding the humid summers were tough for him and his family to adjust. I mentioned Orlando and he said "not for all the tea in China" lol, first time I heard that line from an Asian.

But you made the claim with respect to the CSU system:

"'...run-of-the-mill CSU-type barbarians?' Do you mean all the home-grown Asian students who get top SAT scores and represent the majority of in-state admissions?"

Asian-Americans constitute only 17 percent of CSU students and 37% of UC students. Neither is a majority. Here's the data (Sept. 2010).

I graduated from an out of state university (Colorado) over 3 decades ago and about half of my southern CA high school graduating class went out of state. At age 18, most of us just wanted a change. I don't think that this is a new trend.

A simple explanation,
1. Applicants for Cal Schools have a tough time getting in. Cal Poly gets 40,000 applications a year, and accepts 4,000 new freshmen per year. If other state schools are similar, then there are a lot of students who cannot get into CA state schools, they must go somewhere.
2. Tuition can be much less in other states, that can be important to some, another case can be made that the education offered is relative to cost, which presents a conundrum.
