My rents are due on the 1st, and I give my residents to the morning of the 4th without late fees.

If this is the first time you've been late and have a good history with them, they should waive that fee. I would, but I can't speak for other managers.
This. You had the 1st through Saturday, the 4th, to pay, and you didn't.

Rent due the first of September has the 5 day window. If the fifth day is Saturday, then Sunday 6th, and Monday Labor Day can rent be paid on the 8th with no 6% late fee because of the weekend and Holiday?
