There are grocery stores here other than Vons ? Huh, learn something new every day.

Vons is the best grocery store I've been to in the US...it's the Target of Grocers.....something about the way everything is presented...very balanced and accomodating.

Oh yeah, Gelson's. Used to go to one in Woodland Hills area when I lived in CA. They were nice inside, but a bit pricey.

Trader Joe's, without a doubt. I avoid the big chain stores as much as possible.

1) Trader Joe's (great cheeses, breads, and a lot of other things)
2) Vallarta Markets (fresh meats, good cerviche, fresh salsas)
3) Seafood City (the one in Panorama City -- always has really fresh seafood)
4) Golden Farms (Glendale -- fresh, cheap produce; Armenian/Russian foods)
5) Koreatown Galleria (carries every Korean item you can imagine plus has a good seafood section)

What are your favorites?
Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Gelsons

Looks like there are lots of Trader Joe's fans out there. Count me as one of them.
A recent issue of Consumer Reports had an article comparing grocery chains nationwide, and Trader Joe's was in the top 5 or 10. As someone else posted, for produce, you're better off going somewhere else.

I also like Bristol Farms, but go there only occasionally (was there a couple of Sundays ago), since their prices are on the high side.

There is a Korean market downtown near 8th and Western -- I think it is called Assi Plaza. Anyway, incredibly cheap produce with an unbelievable selection. They get a lot of things I've never even heard of.

There should be no shortage of good grocery stores in the "land of the fruits and nuts". IMO
