State Worker Salary Search - sacbee.com

Take a look at the salaries for California Highway Patrol workers. From 2007 to 2009, most of them had a huge pay raise, with the top administration receiving nearly the salary they earned in 2008.

Didn't we enter the recession in December 2007 and have been struggling to get out of it ever since?

No wonder California is broke.

Here's another one:

Most of the representatives from Employment Development Department saw salary increases by an average of at least 15,000 and 20,000 from 2007 to 2009.

Head coaches making that kind of dough? I'm not a football fan, so what am I missing here? Is there a justification for that?

I'm not a fan either, but its my understanding that:

good football program = huge revenues for the school. Good coaches make winning teams. Winning teams make more money. Good coaches cost money.

As far as CHP salaries ..... how about we ask these guys if they're overpaid? Oh, wait.

Not to demean these CHP officers, what about our US military soldiers that receive very little pay compared to the CHP?

"good football program = huge revenues for the school"

That sounds good, but where does all that revenue end up? If the lion's share benefits academics, then I'm fine with it.

A cop deserves a decent pay but the CHP pay is over the top. This is the career they chose just like a fireman, etc.

The salaries, benefits & pensions of many state employees is way too high.

Just one of many reasons ca is over 20 billion in the red.

I highly doubt it.

Although high salaries for coaches can be offensive - the funds that pay for these salaries do not come from taxpayers (unless they buy tickets). The athletic department of a Div1 school generates huge amounts of revenue through tickets, donations, and of course TV and sponsorships.

Mack Brown at UT (Texas) is paid a ridiculous $5M per year. But the UT athletic department had revenue of $135M last year.
