What do you think of Downtown Boulder in terms of...

Shopping:
Skyline(for a town its size):
Nightlife:
Style/Architecture:

I personally think it is a great area with alot to offer for a city of under 300.000 people in its metro area.

Traffic is always crowded in Boulder, can't get over that. But once you get to the nightlife you want, or the shopping center you want, it's got what most modern citizens would like. At what price depends on your purse or wallet though. A ton of those roads in Boulder need some repaving though.

I wonder if Boulder will ever raise their "skyline" in the near future say 10-20 years from now. It'd certainly be interesting to see given Boulder's liberal thought body. ;D Some of the green buildings I've seen really incorporate style and architecture making them look very aesthetically pleasing.

I disagree about the shopping. I don't know where people in Boulder go to buy clothes. Seriously. Aside from Macy's, Target and the little boutiquey (sp?) places, what is there?

Mostly on-line for me, but I do go to the Eddie Bauer in 29th St. I'm not the best indicator though because even if we had a mall like FlatIrons, I'd still do most of my clothes shopping on-line.

Obviously that's going to depend on your sense of style when it comes to "modern."

You'd think Boulder would build a few condo/apartment towers over 10 stories. If you refuse to build out, then you have to build up... or suffer the consequences of skyrocketing housing prices.

I can see the argument on both sides, since I'd have a hard time affording Boulder's nicer neighborhoods. I'd opt to build out first. The views are what makes the city. It'd be a shame to obscure them.

Boulder hasn't figure out that if you hate sprawl, you'd better love density. IMO, this applies to both commercial and residential development. I remember reading a story a few (more than a few) years back in the Daily Camera about a local company moving their offices to Westminister because they couldn't expand in Boulder. The city council or planning commission or similar was in a state of shock that they were leaving. Apparently, it never occurred to them that healthy companies, even those in Boulder, expand.
