Officers Assigned to District C-11 Make On-Site Firearm Arrest Following a Call for a Large Fight in Ronan Park

At about 10:58 PM on May 30, 2022, Officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a fight at 92 Mount Ida Road in Dorchester and made an onsite firearm arrest of Abria Dorsey, 29, of Dorchester.

Prior to arrival, Officers were informed by the Boston Police Operations that there was a group of 20 to 50 people fighting inside Ronan Park with weapons described as bats, knives, and guns. (Yikes)

Upon arrival, Officers heard multiple women screaming, “he has a gun,” pointing toward the basketball court area. Officers entered the park and observed a male and female walking towards the rear of the park. Upon seeing the Officers, the male began to run away, while the female walked in a different direction. A nearby cruiser stopped the male, and a pat-frisk was conducted with negative results. Another Officer followed Dorsey and observed her making a throwing motion as if discarding an item. Officers were able to stop Dorsey, and upon searching the area where they made the original observations of Dorsey, they were able to recover a loaded firearm. Dorsey was taken into custody without incident.

^ When you toss the gun, if the prints are wiped. Is there anything to go on?

Gentrification train seems to have stalled at Hancock St, hope Dotblock gives it a much-needed push so it keeps rolling southwest. Plenty of section 8 rentals to condo out and no large public housing developments dragging down the entire neighborhood.

The city is finally getting its priorities in order. A new "Late Night Czar" will be recruited. I'm sure they've already got someone identified with a strong party animal resume.

As it should, this isn't exactly an uncommon practice. This is something the city could benefit from culturally and economically and it doesn't take a whole lot of inve$tment. I'd like to think a city of Boston's caliber could walk and chew gum. Whatever 150k this person makes would've been grafted away somewhere or used for some other frivolous deed. Fun is legal. Fun is okay, one need not be ashamed.

IMO the nightlife in Bosotn that exists is good, but increasing the options for clubs (and strip clubs) by about 25-30% would be welcome- just to give folks some new faces when they go out some more DJs, and the ability to host more niche/scene events. Happy Hour would be nice but that not really nightlife. Outside of that, I think it's fine.

On the Boston.com poll 110 of 130 respondents (85%) said "yes the city is too boring" only 10 out of 130 (8%) said "yes things are fine"

I predicted this type of response from you. "Fun" is subjective and there is certainly nothing to be ashamed of as long as your idea of fun doesn't spill into other people's need or desire for peace, or result in crime or the need for disproportionate amounts of public safety resources. Everybody knows what excessive use of alcohol results in. Late night + alcohol (+ inevitable drugs) in combination with lax management practices and licensing compliance always equal problems. That's not to say there isn't a place for late night entertainment if done wisely and with community input. I don't believe the city needs a "Late Night Czar" to accomplish this. Tack this duty on to the plethora of other Chiefs in city government. Frankly, I'd like to see more late night food and entertainment options so long as licensing provisions are strictly enforced.

Guess I missed this when it first came out. Possibly, it's because I saw the "Globe" version of the story. Quite "interesting" that the Globe made zero mention of this part where the troopers were attacked.

Massachusetts State Police troopers ‘attacked’ at Boston’s Carson Beach, make 12 arrests while responding to brawls at area beaches

Troopers were ‘met with violence, disrespect, and criminal behavior’

Okay… so we’re in agreement? I didn’t recommend lax management and crime.

In fact I’d like to see more police detail here and less at traffic intersections. Boston let outs seem pretty rowdy coped to other cities. Most other cities I see a bigger police presence in club districts. In Boston it’s like they have to be called in and it’s a big deal. Just get and stay ahead of it. Use your overtime there.

You can keep 2AM last call to keep alcohol consumption the same but allow clubs to close at 3am. They can find other ways to make money in that last hour. It will stagger the let out and with police presence should deter fights/violence.
