I like John Grisham, Mitch Albom, Paulo Coelho, Rick Warren, Johanna Lindsey, Amy Tan, JK Rowling. I've heard about Patterson and Koontz, but haven't read their books yet.
I love King, Tolkien, and sometimes I do like reading Koontz too.
I have nearly all of Stephen King's books -- I never tire of reading his novels. He goes from gory to a huge adventure (Dark Tower series). To me, his storytelling is so great that each scene perfectly unfolds in my mind as my eyes read the words. It's crazy.
Tolkien did that too of course but I only read the LOTR series as well as the Silmarillion.
Douglas Adams, all his stuff is good, or rather, was good.
Stephen Fry, he doesn’t seem to have a fixed genre, but most of his stuff is good, it’s quirky and has lots of twists in the plots.
Roger Zelazny - He died back in 1995 but I had corresponded with him for some time and he was nice enough to send me some autographed first editions and some non-published materials.
