How far does one have to go to hit some great mountain trails around Boise for running with dogs off leash, mountain biking, etc.? How about winter sports? Canoeing or rafting? I know Idaho has epic outdoor activities as a whole, but wondering about the day to day, middle of the week options for an active family with two very active dogs.

What is the best part of town to live in for these sorts of things?

Boise is one of the best cities in the country for access to trails. You can hit trails from downtown Boise in 5 minutes.

As for water, the Boise river runs right through downtown and is easily accessed.

For quick access to trails, you will want to be in the North End or live north of State Street and no further west than Glenwood. Boise Bench area is a little less expensive and will only add about an extra 5-10 minutes to trails.

Google "Ridge To Rivers" and it will give you maps and tons of info about trails in the Boise area.

Thanks Grmi66!
