What are the chances of making Bend our new home if we are from sub-continent/south asian origin. I'm married with 2 children and have lived in Denver, and Pittsburgh. I'm looking for a mountain town which is not too small and not a big city. Most of my friends are Americans but my wife's main concern is...are there other people of our color...perhaps not many. After looking at many places in Montana, Wyoming, and other western states, Bend sounds pretty good...despite little higher cost of homes and not too many good jobs.

Not a lot of persons of color, but I have noticed zero racism. People tend to confuse a lack of diversity with rejection of diversity. Not the case here. People seem to be very accepting.

Default bend what dream

Thank you for the input. As long as acceptance factor is there, I see a bit hope, rest will be up to us. I lived in Weed, Ca for 1 yr. back in 80's when I decided to go to a small college town and it was pretty rough. But I accepted their actions and learned to live with them.

I suggest a couple of 5+ day visits. Spend time in town but also the surrounding area to see how it feels to you. I have been told there may be acceptance issues as you get away from downtown Bend.

I guess I am going to take my chances, if I survived in weed, california for one year, I'll make it there and live my dream. Thanx, and I'll still look for some positive input.

While Bend isn't exactly a diverse community, I find it very accepting of all people. I have several friends who have children of mixed race or ethnicity, and they love this community! We are a few hours away from Portland, a much more diverse city. I don't foresee any problems living in Bend because of the color of your skin.

By the way, is it true that sw part of Bend gets more snow than other parts? Are the home prices the same as other parts or less due to this fact? Personally, more snow the better.

I agree, too big for me to live (and too rainy) but a great place to visit! I have so many friends that take weekend trips with their families to the city to visit museums, the zoo, etc.

SW Bend does usually get a little more snow that other parts of Bend. It just depends on how the storms are tracking though. Home prices on the NW and SW sides of town tend to be higher, in general, because of their proximity to town and the mountains. I don't think the snow factors into pricing.

Less, but not due to this fact. And yes, this is somewhat true. DRW (Deschutes River Woods) and along Powers road seem to be where you should look.
