To each his/her own, Steve! Like many, I find the desert to be desirable. There's something magical to me about the quiet, the expanding vistas, the old growth Juniper, and the harsh climate of the desert. Do I enjoy visiting the beautiful green forests and lush growth provided on the western side of Oregon, yes. Is it desirable for me to live there, no.

Absolutely agree with you, Snownut! I love the desert and I even love our cold, high desert. It does grow on you too. I miss the red rock desert I moved from, but the Oregon desert is carving its own special place in my heart now.

Bend is considered desirable by many people. That is actually how I found it, during a search of most desireable places to live. Why else was there such an influx prior to the recession? And hopefully it won't happen again, but I would bet growth will be sustainable for the foreseeable future.

Deschutes County which includes the city of Bend continues to be the fastest growing in human population in Oregon. So many are finding Bend desirable.

I am not sure that is correct. It seems I read Multnoma county is growing while Deschutes is losing population.

I too found Bend as recommended place to live based on relocation tests. I had not even heard of Bend one year ago! Now it is my top relocation spot. I am subscribed to this Bend form, and daily follow the Bend area news, blogs, weather, real estate etc. I too would like to see growth stay at sustainable levels. No more bubbles like happened a few years ago.

I've pointed this out to you, Steve Pickering, in another thread recently. Not sure why you would still claim as much? Deschutes county and Bend are growing again and have been for a while now (depends how you define 'a while'):

We're Still Growing: Deschutes Co. 39th in U.S. | News - Home

One man's paradise is another man's hell. You've got to be able to put yourself in someone elses shoes even when you don't agree with them. Empathy....And the fact is that Bend, to MANY, is an EXTREMELY desirable relocation spot. May not be everyones.....

And to many others it is just another desert city, over built and stagnating.

Put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Your residency and/or profession may be coloring your opinion.

Bend is not currently a good investment.

Based on what data? Or just your opinion from afar?

Being a thinking human being who does not depend on others for his knowledge for one thing. The other is paying attention to what is going on around me. I am in Bend several times a month so what is the afar comment about?
