My husband and I are considering moving to Bend (like so many others). What do you like about Bend? What makes Bend special to you?

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

Well I only visited, but what I liked was how clean the city is and although it's not a small town per say it feels like one. People seemed quite friendly. I like that 2 mins out of town gets you into farm lands and gorgeous mountain views. I loved the river through the city and that you can access it from just about anywhere. It was so dog friendly that it was cute, there were dog water bowls at almost all outdoor sitting area of restaurants and cafes, and some menus said they'll give your pooch a complimentary treat if you ask for it. There is a birth center in town! probably doesn't mean much to anyone else but I was super stoked.

I like how it's hard to come up with things in the '10 reasons not to move to Bend' thread....

We moved a year ago and we love the Schools, activities for families, small town feel but not small town amenities. Low traffic, friendly people. Community events throughout the summer. Winter and summer activities as well as every kind of outdoor activity you can imagine. That's just a few things. We LOVE it.

I love the mountain-ish lifestyle mixed with the PNW culture.

I love how friendly the community is.

I love how laid back everyone is (this has taken me some time to get use to)

I love the proximity to just about every outdoor adventure within 20 mins.

I love that we don't get much snow in town at all, but get TONS in the mountains only a few miles away.

I love all our bakeries, coffee roasters, breweries, wineries and any other local business.

I love the weather - the lack of humidity, mostly. I love the totally cloudless days. I love the late cold spring - I'm a skier. I love a summer where you don't have to worry about rain just about ever. I love that even when it's cloudy in the winter it is very rarely rainy and you can still get out and enjoy the outdoors DRY. I love the rainbows. I love when its sunny out, but snowing.....

I love the food. We have an AMAZING selection of 7-14 dollar food. I eat extremely healthy, both at my home and out to eat, and well prepared food that lacks almost ANY preservatives. This is quite easy to do in town.

I love that I can bike or walk everywhere I want to go.

I love that every single person that has visited me has legitimately considered moving here......

Wow. Thanks Kapetrich. Your response essentially captures my list of must-haves in a city (healthy, good food; outdoor mecca; sunshine, etc). I'm especially glad to hear that the weather isn't rainy and cloudy all the time. The fact that Bend has sunny and dry days is a breath of good news. Thank you for your comments!

Good. Glad I could help. It's definitely a special place.

Caveate, though. You live in Flagstaff? During the winter, Bend isn't nearly as sunny as Flagstaff. Plus, our springs are LONG and they're more like 'still-winter' than spring. That said, we get less rain than Flagstaff. Most notably in the summer since we don't have that monsoon season.

Thank you for your review. We are thinking about moving to Bend in a few years. Came up as a top location in Find Your Spot Test and we have been studying ever since. Our first visit is set for August this year and that will confirm or not? wether we keep looking into Bend. Biggest concern from the outside looking in would be getting jobs in Bend. We have a second home in WV we are looking to sell and would roll that money into a Bend property as it looks like a good time to buy. Though I love the beauty of WV & VA I am tired of the humidity, mold and bugs around here. Don't think humidity and mold are issues in Bend. How about bugs?
