BR is a nice place to live and i think that you and your partner would have a nice life here.
What bgirlz said goes for me too — except the part about working in a restaurant.

I would be interested in knowing as well. I just moved here from Dallas and my partner lives in CO, she is coming here soon. I am looking to meet people and not sure where. I do live in Spanish Towne and the parade is in two weeks so that may help me meet my neighbors. Any Gay/Lesbian events would be nice.

I am born and raised in Baton Rouge, and I agree with the replies, that you are better off living in Baton Rouge, that outside area's. The Downtown, and LSU area's are much more open minded than others, and have more diversity. I wise you and your partner well. Stay away from rural area's, you will not feel very comfortable is you don't drive a huge truck, not married by 25, with at least two kids, and don't love wide open wilderness full of nothing! - Good Luck !

I'm a 22 year old female living with my girlfriend in Baton Rouge. I can basically agree with everybody else on here. I am from Livingston Parish and I'm definitely glad I''m out of the country! LSU is probably the most liberal and accepting place around here. We have never had ANY problems with the residents or coworkers around here. Most people have their opinions (conservative!), but are not too likely to voice them unless asked. I'd like to think Baton Rouge has a little more class and better things to do with their time than to bash others. Respect them, they respect you!

Good luck with your move and I wish yall the best!

Jenn

We currently live in the Chicago suburbs and are used to suburban life in a progressive area. Any suggestions on nice, middle to upper middle class area's in and around BTR that are gay friendly/tolerant would be appreciated. What are the attitudes in the area?

Thanks
I dont think you have to worrie about that, here we have alot of gay couples.Anyway you should never ever worrie about what people think of you.Tell them to clean there own back yard and stay out of yours.

Baton Rouge tolerates a lot of things . A gay or lesbian person will not stand out . Live wherever you wish . It won't be a problem .

Spanish Town is where the "gay community" is in Baton Rouge. If semi-secluded downtown living isn't your thing, there's the Garden District. I know gay people that live all over the metro area though and nobody attacks them or anything. Be sure to time your commutes to work before moving into a neighborhood. You don't want to spend all day in traffic.
