Are the Giants the defending champions until the day they are eliminated from the post season, or do they remain the defending champions until the '11 champion wins the WS?
cardinals are only 2 games ahead of the giants ... but the point remains
giants have 15 games left
even if they won out that would give them 92 wins ..... to beat that the braves would have to finish 9-5 over their last 14 and the cardinals 14-1 over their last 15
now back in reality where if you take their season winning percentage and apply it to their remaining games you get 8 wins ... throw in 3 more for a hot streak and at best I could see them finishing 11-4
that is 88 wins .... to beat that Atlanta needs to go 5-9 over their last 14 and the cardinals need to go 9-6 over their final 15

Until the day Giants are eliminated from playoff contention.

yeah - can you believe that giants team won the WS last year?! ... can't believe how everything broke perfectly for them
i wouldn't count on lightening striking twice ... unless you're matt hasselbeck, in which case you'll go bald and get called for an illegal block when making a tackle after an interception

I still can't believe it! I mean they were not even expected to win the division since everyone kept talking about how they don't have the big bats but the pitching is so good in the playoffs.
Can you believe Lincecum beat Lee twice in a series?
I was most expecting the Giants to win it in 2002 season.
I was surprised why Seattle did not sign Hasslebeck again.
Giants’ win overshadowed as executive committee forces out Bill Neukom
Neukom, it is said, believed that this was his money to spend as he saw fit — and he did so, to increase payroll and buy new technology for the baseball department, among other expenditures. Instead, the executive committee allegedly wanted the money to be put in a “rainy day fund” for use in leaner times. The committee also believed that Neukom needed the committee’s authorization before making such major financial decisions.
I think we’re all smart enough to connect the dots here. The owners didn’t want to soar over $100MM in payroll, and Neukom put himself out there by giving Brian Sabean the go-ahead to trade for Carlos Beltran. If the Beltran move succeeded, if it had spurred the Giants to become a league-average offense and propelled the team to the playoffs (where they’d accumulate some more money for that “rainy day fund”) we probably wouldn’t be hearing this story.
