The thing is they've had a lot of good players throughout their history but just can't put it all together. I hate superstition but they really are a cursed franchise. I remember in the Phillies era of inferiority in the late 90s we'd all say to each to each other "at least we're not the Cubs"
Yeah 12-0. A thorough embarrassment. 2 ****ing hits for the Cubs. Absolutely amazing. Go ahead Reds fans tear apart the Cubs. I won't object and I may even help you. They deserve it. Enjoy yourselves in the playoffs if you get there. I hope the Cubs lose 100 games. **** 'em.
No, the Cubs are better. Their front office at least tries to field a competitive team, and it's better to try and fail than not try at all.
Back in 2001, the Pirates had a winning record against the Astros, and were the only team to beat Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson in a single series, yet they still finished 62-100, tied with the expansion Rays for the worst record in baseball.
Schlitter used to be a Phillies farmhand and he was the guy they traded to get Scott Eyre. Good trade. I don't think the Phillies would've won the WS without Eyre and he was probably their best reliever over the 2 year span between 2008 and 2009. Meanwhile, judging from his minor league stats and major league performance thus far, Schlitter is nothing special. I guess that's karma for the Ryne Sandberg trade
