I am getting ready to go on a cross country road trip and I wanted to get new tires. I currently have Bridgestone Insignia tires and have had them for 5 years with no problems. Since I am moving I am on a budget and dont have too much to spend on tires but I realize they are important and I one to get a good one. I went to tirerack.com and saw a pair of Kumho Solus for only $45 a tire, but when they gave me the list of suggested installers they all charge close to $50 per tire. That seems like a lot.

I called Sears and they have some Bridgestone Weatherforce tires on sale and with installation would only cost me $210. That seems like a great price. Should I just go with the Sears tires or are their mechanics crappy? My car is nothing special, a 10 year old Mitsubishi Mirage and my tire size is 175/70 R13...not sure what that all means.

Any advice would be great, thanks!

I have had good luck at Sears. Each store is different though.

I too have had consistently good service from Sears, for tires and batteries.

Google "Ron White tire guy". Funny as hell.

Honestly, my parents have used them several times and were satisfied.

Sears = on my list for banned stores. I noticed a general decline started in every single department in that store about 5 years ago, and about 3 years ago I completely washed my hands of them.

I have never had any problems with them but my only complaint is that the tires are usually expensive. It is not their fault because all retailers charge a lot for tires when compared to online retailers. I guess I am just spoiled by Tirerack and eBay. Other than that, their services never disappointed me.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will go ahead and get the tires from Sears. The tires seem pretty good and they are very affordable. Reading some of the comments on citysearch.com made me a bit nervous, but I guess people are more likely to write a bad review than a good review.

For tires there are few places better than Tirerack.com.

I second this statement. I've had great luck at Sears... they've been most honest. I buy my tires on sale at Tire Rack & have Sears mount them Best of both worlds (save money, good service)

Word.

I went in for a service on my old Ranger and the tech advised a coolant flush (pricey, too)...fair enough, but I had just performed that on my truck the day before.

Ooops.
