Um, yeah I figured that much, but thier TYPE is more likey to buy one. I guess its like looking at the SRT chargers and Chrysler 300's. Its not for everyone and the ones that do are not looking for a Hyundai regardless of what it costs.
The SRT 300 and particularly the SRT Charger specifically looked the part of a hopped-up car with performance pretensions. The SHO does not. It looks like a family sedan that happens to have some oomph under the hood. Kind of like a Genesis. Its more sedate appearance gives it a broader appeal. That has always been part of its appeal.
I guess I can look at it like this, most people who will buy a car like the SHO are probably going to make some modification to it afterward. The SHO customer is not the same as the Genesis customer no matter how you choke it up. Totally different mindset. Go to www.bringbackthesho.com and you will see. So trying to convince any of that customer base to buy a Genisis (regardless of how good its suppossed to be) is futile at best.
Most car buyers do not modify their vehicles. It is a relatively small percentage of enthousiasts who will modify their vehicles and risk voiding their warranty in the process.

Most average car buyers do not, your 100% correct. Most people who buy a niche car like the SHO, an SVT Ford, and SRT Chrysler or the like do. All you have to do is look at all the forums about them.
It's American made and that's enough for me to put it on top of the list. I prefer to support my neighbors, not some Oriental or European family.
Even if it's based on a European design (Taurus is Volvo P2 architecture) or built in Mexico? Though granted this is one Ford (I believe) that's actually built in America.
At any rate I'm proud of Ford doing things right and making a comeback.

We're talking single digit percentages, a teeny tiny little segment. It's not going to be like what you remember from the old car so much, with kids buying cheap ones on the used market and modding them. Especially starting out at $37K, the new buyers of a car like this will largely leave 'em alone.

The Charger SRT is menecing in apperance, the SRT 300 is far from it. Aside from the wheels and brakes THE AVERAGE joe wouldnt know an SRT 300 from a base model. The SHO is in that same group, but the customer that buys that type of car know exactly what it is.
Case in point. My old EVO. When I bought it in 03 most of america had and to this day most dont have any idea what it is or what it can do. Its a import with a funny looking wing to most. That said at its price point (since thats what you guys are using) there was very little if anything that was close in performance and handling. You could make a case for the STI but I think its ugly. On a performance and handling scale it was competing with cars 2 and 3 times its cost. Was there stuff that had more luxury, oh yeah, but thats not what the EVO buy is looking for. A niche car is for a NICHE not the masses.

That single percentage makes up a BILLION dollar aftermarket performance industry.

The size of the aftermarket industry makes no difference to this discussion. Whether its an SHO, SRT, STI, etc the aftermarket even for these niche vehicles is still fairly small compared to the overall number of cars sold. People are not too fond of voiding the warranty on their $37,000 cars. The forums for these cars do not represent every vehicle sold. I see several riced out Honda's around the San Francisco/Peninsula area on a daily basis but they still make up a very small percentage of all Honda's sold.

Thats an incorrect statement. You would be hard pressed to find an 03 EVO, an 03 SVT Cobra, etc that doesnt have mods. And some people will wait a year or two to modify to avoid warranty issues and two to let the market develop for that platform. If you think the numbers are a very small percentage I have a couple guys at magnaflow you can talk to.

It's not that I think this, I know this for a fact. I'm a member on many car forums including the cars that I own/owned. Currently that is G35Driver and 300ZXCLUB and I know a good deal about the aftermarket community. I've seen plenty of unmodified EVO's, WRX's and Cobra's. Magnaflow isn't exactly the most highly regarded exhaust manufacturer either. I would never install their products onto my cars.
