Not Obama's fault, the nation is going this way ...way before Obama came into office. It's just that Bush didn't push the issue since he was out the door and he had interest in the oil stocks.
Maybe, but it would be kinda hard to put a nice sounding set of Flowmasters on an electric motor.
Put a speaker on it and have it play engine sound when you floor it.
I heard some hybrids are doing this already, which is a great idea actually. I've came way too close with hybrids too many times while crossing the street because I couldn't hear them.
FWIW, I thought something that happened in the 1970s killed the muscle car (I was to little to know) and the modern muscle was just the natural cycle of stronger and faster "becuase we can" repeating itself, only this time with airbags, good brakes, and independant suspension
The two main things which killed the muscle car in the '70s was:
- High insurance rates
- Tougher emission standards to meet

No, the nation is not going this way. $4 made people interested in gas mileage and compact cars. When that went back to normal so did the demand for the small cars. The Prius sold 181,221 units in the US in 2007, the Tundra pickup truck sold 196,555 that year and the Camry sold 473,108 units. The US consumer does not want the small cars that the Europeans drive...

Just for ironic effect how about a Pious that makes the sound of, how about an F40?

News Flash: Gas prices will continue to increase and small cars will continue to be in demand. Small cars are more prevalent in Europe because their fuel prices are much higher than ours. U.S. consumers want what they can reasonably afford and 15mpg monsters don't fit that goal in the long term. I love big V8's but unfortunately they don't have a place in our market place.
On the political end, Obama really doesn't have much to do with this. It was either him or the other guy because we've been going in this direction for a very long time. We are constantly moving towards increased efficiency in all types of business and the automotive field is no different.
I hate to get political in the automotive forum, but there's no way around it. If I understand it correctly, under Obama's plan cars will have to get 39mpg by 2016, there's NO WAY that a V8 powered Corvette, Camaro, or Mustang can do that. I seriously doubt anyone will buy a hybrid/electric Corvette. Maybe it's all cars combined must average 39mpg, but still even that way I don't see room in the line up for muscle cars.
Anyone sure that it will be him that win the next election?
Obama didn't kill the muscle car, $4.75 gasoline and the struggling ozone layer killed the muscle car...
