Ask anyone with a GM product that has ever seen wonderful code P1870. Then there is the rest of the universal OBD2 code list that corresponds to transmission fault codes.
If that one is caught in time, it saves the cost of a transmission replacement.
Thanks for the info and tried to rep you but had to "spread the love around" before I can again.
On the Camry anyway (OBD-I) the transmission has a separate trouble light - the O/D lockout light will flash -
Well, my mechamic had to run a "bay test" to check the evaporation system and after running the test no problem was found. He mentioned something about trouble code P0442 and had to flash program engine computer with the latest software since my car didn't have it. I'm very tired so sorry if I'm not making total sense.........sorry. The cost was 147.54 plus tax was that reasonable for my 98 Neon?
Actually the 30K timer is just a little box that has one speedometer cable going into it and one going out, at least it is on my Scirocco. It can be reset by punching a recessed button on it, using a small screwdriver, a pen or similar instrument. It's not buried in the dash. Although even if it was, I can get the dash "pod" out with only a Swiss Army knife...
Once I found it the first time, it took only a couple of minutes to find the link and pull it till I heard a click.
did anyone have this light on, and wonder what now? Did anyone, also
after reading the book etc., and the light still is on go to the dealer? Then
just an estimate on 90.00 plus? Then, the advisor, said he did set me free
it was the gas cap! They did a reset, is this normal, I was real happy!
I guess depends on the dealer? I got off without 90.00 in a 2 minute check.

Get the codes read at Auto Zone or another discount parts store, they usually do it for free.
CEL is your friend, despite how many people feel about seeing it. It allows you to diagnose a problem rather quickly and address it.
Once you have the code to a search online and you can then narrow it down. I have a basic OBDII code reader that I paid 40 bucks for and has been an invaluable tool in car ownership.
Mines been on for 7 years on one of my cars. Electrical tape works real well blocking out the light.
