I'm a bit surprised at the lack of love for the Mirada.

I wanted one in the worst way as a young man, back when they were new. That wedge shape, that grill, a very nice looking car. At the time I owned the Dodge Charger version of the Cordoba, which was a typical American "personal luxury" car, smogged down thirsty V8, marshmallow suspension, an interior decorated with all the taste of a Big Easy bordello, and the Mirada was really a warmed over and squared off update of that car. Didn't care, wanted one anyway.

I think they fell into obscurity because they are goofy looking. Perhaps in the 80s they were all kinda goofy looking but this one tops them all IMO. But with RWD/V8, it seems like it could have some potential as a (sleeper) street project, or an all-out dragster.

Also remember on this forum, hating on Dodge/Chrysler is trendy. If you had one go relatively trouble-free for a long distance, you 'must have got the good one' and it had nothing to do with proper maintenance & fluids.

JFC, cars looked so utterly hideous back then.

It flatly says "Cutlass Supreme is the most popular car of the '80s". And this is a 1985 commercial, so about as '80s as it gets.

My favorite Mercedes other than the original Gullwing.

My choices for personal luxury coupes run to the Euros as well, having owned an '80s BMW 6 series coupe.

I owned a 1985 Olds 442. Great car for its day. I do wish we had some 2 door non-pony coupes today which are V8 and RWD. Well I bought the last model of it type. Has to last me many decades apparently.

Recently saw a Cutlass Supreme of that era. Overall length was about the same as today's FWD midsize sedans. The Cutlass had a longer hood and bigger trunk but the interior space seemed smaller. Today's FWD midsize sedans have more passenger room, more fuel economy, and better acceleration & handling. Those GM clones look fantastic when dressed up compared to today's sedans.
