Help...My brake lights aren't working and if it's not the fuse is it an electrical problem? The car is 10 years old and yes, I should buy a newer car but I am unemployed so big money purchases are out. Would appreciate your answers.

blinker fluid?

Why not have Jiffy Lube run a check on it if its not a fuse and not a bulb, cheaper then a new car...
Sometimes cars just have quirks.....that are easily fixed but vastly hidden for a moment.

98 plymouth neon, 71,000 miles. About 3 weeks ago I had work done replaced, ignition coils, spark plug wire set, valve cover gasket replaced. All else seems ok.

check the fuse first,if its good check the bulbs, un likely, for two bulbs to burn at once, but we have to check, then to the brake light switch, its right by the brake pedal, when you push on the pedal,to brake this activates the switch thus turning on the brake lights.

Quite possible a wire got knocked off the brake light switch, if a Neon has the switch on the lines or master cylinder under the hood. If it has a switch on the brake pedal itself, that could have failed. This switch is easy to change and a new (or even junkyard) one should not cost much.

A 10 year old car is not really that old - BS that you should be buying newer.

If you are unemployed don't go out to buy a newer car. This is not a major issue and can be easily fixed.

there is a plug with wires that connects to your brake lights, if you can find this pull the plug off and see if the metal prongs are corroded or not and if they are take a scotch bright pad to them until they are shiny again and plug it in and see if your brake work or not. Most times when lights don't work it could be a possible corroded connection. This you could do yourself to save some money and I hope i explained things in the simplist way possible.

Blinker Fluid, Lucky . . . someone is yankin your chain.

As for the problem . . . my money is on the Brake Switch which should be a relatively simple and inexpensive fix.

Good Luck
