It used to be, American cars ruled the world and people were brand loyal to one make for life. (Eddie's dad was a GM guy, Johnny's dad was a Ford guy) Then we got serious foreign car sales, and people became American loyal. (Ted only buys American, Jane only buys Japanese)

Over time the auto industry expanded and we went from half a dozen brands worldwide to the dozens of automakers we have today, and in each class of automobile, we have more choice and variety than ever. If you want a midsize sedan, you have literally dozens of cars to choose from.

So the question is, are you brand loyal? If so, why do you stick with a single automaker? If not, what is your reasoning?

I will try to always drive a Jeep. When I first started driving I had a Grand Cherokee, drove that for 7-8 years. I traded that in for another Grand Cherokee, I love them. My dad was one of the biggest I will only drive American cars, then he came home with a Lexus and his nose is still high up in the air.

I bought American twice and got screwed both times (Chrysler product). I am now a Toyota fan. I love thier designs and their reliability. I have a 1992 4Runner that is still going strong, bought it in 1994.

I tested several brands from Fords, Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans but never really a Chevy or other GM cars... I found Honda was reliable and fuel economic and I really liked the way the Honda Civic looked... So I bought several Hondas over the years because it fitted what I need. I am "not" brand loyal, I buy quality products and Honda has been making quallity products with good MPGs so I bought them... I am planning to buy a Chevy Volt in the future and am open to buying another Chevy IF the Chevy Volt isn't a let down and Chevy continues to make quality cars... My wife needs a car too... If the Chevy Volt impresses me, I may get her a Chevy if she wanted too...

I'm also not brand loyal, I buy what appeals to me regardless of the brand. I just so happen to drive an American SUV; it was the best mixture of comfort/style/power/price in any of the SUV's I looked at so I bought it. It doesn't really matter what brand it is as long as the quality is there; if my Yukon branded as a Toyota or Ford, I still would've bought it but it just so happens to be a GM.

I used to be Mopar-only. From 1979 to 2002, I owned a '66 Dodge Dart GT V-8.
Then I went to Cadillacs (first one bought in 1995); I've also added Lincolns to my list.

But only G.M./Ford/Mopar for me.

I buy based on what is best for me. Brand or the country of origin is irrelevant.
