I'm A big Volvo fan, and love their cars. I don't consider myself "loyal" though because I will always test drive many makes and do my research before buying, because I will always buy the best car for my needs. Volvo's always been my choice, but if I were truly loyal, I would just go down to the dealer no questions asked. I will never make any promises to any company like that, as I want to see them compete for my business.
It used to be, American cars ruled the world and people were brand loyal to one make for life. (Eddie's dad was a GM guy, Johnny's dad was a Ford guy) Then we got serious foreign car sales, and people became American loyal. (Ted only buys American, Jane only buys Japanese)
Over time the auto industry expanded and we went from half a dozen brands worldwide to the dozens of automakers we have today, and in each class of automobile, we have more choice and variety than ever. If you want a midsize sedan, you have literally dozens of cars to choose from.
So the question is, are you brand loyal? If so, why do you stick with a single automaker? If not, what is your reasoning?
I like all sorts of Chevy Camaros/Pontiac Firebirds. I like Mustangs. I like 68-70 Dodge Chargers, and many many other muscle era cars from GM and Mopar. Unfortunately for Ford, the only attractive muscle era car they made was the Mustang, and yeah, some Mercury Cougars, but it's the same car. I like those Chrysler 300s. i like those Nissan 350 Zs.
point being, i'm not going to pass on any of the above because they weren't made by one particular manufacturer.
Toyota trucks are what rock me. Like the Solara I own too.
I had great luck with Nissans and Honda's.
Ford- Not even as a gift. Nothing but bad experiences
Chevy- They make a great full sized truck. Hate the colorado. Whimpy looking 2wheel drive looking 4x4's.
Dodge? Never owned one but my friends have once.
Built a jeep and had a great time doing it. Learned a lot. They are fun but love the wrench.
Mazda, taken after my dad. Always thought they had a great fun to drive quality to them, even dad's ancient 626. Now they have a RX-8 and a CX-7, and I have a Ford Fusion (which is based on the Mazda 6).
I used to be a GM guy, but have owned Dodges or Mopar since 86. I put 205,000 miles on 86 Chrysler Lebaron, 4 banger, 168,000 on a 98 Dodge Dakota, 86,000 on a 01 Dodge Intrepid , and now presently own a 05 Dodge Stratus Coupe. I have never had any problems out of any of them, but the wife has had 2 Dodge Stratus Sedans, and 04 she had some electronic issues, other than that, I will stay with Dodge..
My 01 Intrepid, before the Stratus
My 98 Dodge Dakota, before the Intrepid

Reason: Changed Picture
I have never understood brand loyalty... every manufacturer has good and bad models so sticking with a name is not a sound strategy. And if you look at content you will find the cars have components designed and built all over the world.
I buy the model that satisfies my needs with the capabilities and price that is attractive regardless of brand. Have owned dozens of cars over the years and have not found any one brand is clearly superior on a consistent basis.
