I have a 2011 4 door Tacoma. Love the truck but don't buy it for gas mileage. It's 4wd and I get about 17 mpg driving conservatively, mostly around town. 4 cyl do much better, but do drive one. They are pretty weak in the power dept.

The Honda Ridgeline's reliability is likely equal to the Tacoma and better than any others.

i have a honda ridgeline and it is a great vehicle. my wife loves to drive it and so do i. they are all awd, (it is not an option) which can be a plus for some applications. they have lots of bells and whistles, along with being very comfortable to drive and ride in. as mentioned, reliability is great.

the only real issue you might have, is the gas mileage. in town driving is middle or even low teens and best highway is slightly over 20.

I drive a 2006 Tacoma Regular cab 5 spd manual and it gets about 360 miles per full tank (90% city 10% hwy). The seats are very comfortable (bench or bucket) compared to any ranger i've driven. I would spend the extra money on a Tacoma if your going to be using this for work and be in it 10 hours per day or more.

Here in our area, those little pickups are very rare, and hard to sell. Here we use full size pickups, and those are 4X4 models. At higher altitude with snow conditions, we use what we call real pickups. Little pickups with small engines, don't cut it for us. Our F150 gets 20 plus miles on the Interstate. And not a lot less around town.

I don't know, I've seen many Wyoming ranches with old beat up Tacomas running around.

A 4 cylinder Frontier will get 18 around town and 25 on the highway. Even as good as 26-27 on country roads going around 50.

If I was looking for a truck just to drive I would get a new Tacoma.

The OP is in Texas and will not need 4 wheel drive or driving in the snow. A 2wd 4 cyl small pickup is good enough. I like the Tacoma because of its size (very easy to park in the city) vs Full size where it can be difficult to park in tight city lots.

Where are you located? Here in Kansas City, Tacomas don't sit on the lot for long before they sell. Hell I saw a used 2002 model today sell before it even made it to the dealers lot!
