Oh yeah. Sometimes I think they are slowing down for the next red light before they ever leave the one their at! That has always been a pet peeve of mine. I can leave in my 78 Pinto for god sakes and get to the store and back before they ever leave the driveway. Of course, I am a very impatient person. Always have been. But really, I pass these guys all the time in my 40 year old cars. I just don't understand it. I am always taking corners, bumps, etc., etc., faster than most, even in my oldies.

Pinto wagon or hatchback? Classics.
And, yes, the very last thing you ever want to do is make it through an intersection without coming to a complete stop. Also, if that light turns yellow right as you're on it, you want to slam on those brakes! Safer, you know?
I've borrowed/rented a few modified pickups over the past, few years and gave them the "old man" treatment.
I've gotten the stares, and the worst I ever got was a whining at the gas station from some meat-head that was gunning his engine at the previous light.
Some of us end up driving things like this for a variety of reasons.
Yes they go fast and do it well, but there's no need to flash that dominance at every street corner.
Majority of the time, it's mainly because sum yung fool wants to attract some fine young women.
Which seems to be the justification for most of their Alpha Male-moron behavior.

I drive my Charger like an old granny. I have owned fast sporty cars in the past and have driven them like a maniac. However, there is something about this car that is satisfying when just puttering about. I get my foot in it at times too, but don't always feel the need.
Having owned a variety of performance cars and trucks over the years, I can say that the reason that you see these guys not hauling the mail is......because they can. They don't have to impress every rice grinder in town because they are comfy with what they have and know that there are few REAL challengers. Maybe some day you'll own a REAL car and then you'll know what the rest of know- confidence that few can stay with you so soak in the sights of a REAL car ricer and maybe some day you can join the big boys.
If. as noted in the OP, you are on an on ramp and not coming up to speed then you are a putz no matter what you drive. Even if it is a REAL [sic] car.
"REAL" [sic] car doesn't mean squat if you're too stupid to drive correctly. And it doesn't make you a man as you seem to think.
When I want to drive little recklessly I wait for a January snow and do 10+ over the speed limit on a twisty, hilly narrow back road in my AWD Subaru with four good snow tires. It may not be real fast but it is a lot of fun and takes some skill.
I think it depends where you are. I'm in the northeast and most sports car owners are what you describe. Old retired folk driving 10 below the speed limit, who bought their car because they have the cash and want some thrills. (i.e. flooring at every stop sign till they get to 45, then never going past 50)
Lol, last summer going to work I would pass this guy in a brand new CTS-V everyday. Guy musta been 80 years-old crawling down to the post office every morning in his Caddy.
But when you go out west and you get more than 3-5 months of good driving weather a year, you'll start to see more serious drivers.
Don't take me as an ******* though, drive what you want to drive and be happy, that's all that matters.
how much do you spend to maintain it since a 50 dollar 33 year car that was known as not being a great cart and it being in rough shape how do you pass SMOG?
