I think it's good to have car with more speed options. The corolla we had several years back of course was a 4-speed and was very fuel efficient. With about 20% city driving I think we used to get something like 34MPG. On hwy it was 40MPG or something like that. I'd imagine it still gives you the same mileage.
What about the Kia Soul? Its in the size range of the Fit and Yaris and price wise a litlte below the Fit at least for the base. Plus its passenger room( not cargo room) is bigger than the Fit.
I'd like to know its reliability, how it drives, seating comfort, noise level, etc. as compared to the Fit.

I rented a soul once and was very impressed. I'd still side with Honda or toyota for long-term reliability.
I hold a minority opinion: I really like the Yaris. It's a very inexpensive, simple, reliable car. Not a lot of gadgets. Fun with a stickshift in the way an old Tercel was.
Will the 2014 redesign of the Corolla include a 5- or 6-speed automatic? And/or, a CVT transmission?
Yes. And the 4 speed slushboxes will depreciate that much faster because of it.
BTW, what evidence do you have that the automatic in the 2014 Corolla, will have more than 4 speeds, and/or be a CVT?
I've been searching for any such references, and come up empty. Nothing more than a few "Well, we hope it does", and a number of statements saying Toyota isn't revealing ANY details on drivetrain.
Got a link or reference to back up your statement?
