Nope, none at all. He does not currently own a vehicle. So my insurance is primary...and if there's a claim, he also owes me for the $1000 deductible.
Deductibles don't work that way. The Liability coverage is straight coverage, with no out of pocket expense to you. You would only have a deductible if you have collision coverage(or comp), and you were getting your vehicle repaired.

Really? Well that's good to know! I suppose I ought to know this stuff, but thankfully I have little to no experience with auto insurance and the aftermath of wrecks.
My one and only auto insurance claim was 18 years ago when I had a vehicle stolen, vandalized, used in a drive-by shooting, then driven into a fence. I had comprehensive insurance at the time and recall paying a $500 deductible.
I'd just keep looking for parts to fix it. You can paint it yourself, it's pretty easy. Not being in a hurry to get it back on the street makes it easy in my opinion. Keep checking the junk yards.
Yup, it's pretty easy, if you have all the necessary tools to prep and paint, a space in which to paint, time to do it, and some experience in painting. Simple as that.
Truly, he who breaketh it is he who fixeth it. But that's a philosophical question.
Your best bet is to DIY or trust your pal (what kind of FRIEND is he?) that his mech will do the job right.
Headlights and plastic stuff you buy from Certifit. Headlights are anywhere from 40 bucks into hundred something on new vehicles.
Marker lights and such run in 10-20 bucks.
Bumper covers are anywhere from $60 and up Ebay or same Certifit. Fenders are 40 and up bucks Certifit.
Biggest $$$ will be paint job, unless you do not care to drive unpaited. Plenty of those out on the road.
But I can not see you paying for all this. Sorry, I understand. Sorry to be cold hearted, but that's why you do not let anyone borrow your cars, and if you do - you politely ask if they have good coverage. Ain't nothing wrong with it.
Otherwise, you sell it "as is" on craiglsit. DO NOT PART!!!
Or, donate to charity and write it off.
ukrkoz, seriously, I do not need any more lectures on the wrong-ness of loaning a vehicle to someone without a+ coverage. I've been beating myself up big-time over this!
All I'm trying to do is minimize damage and maximize returns.
ukrcoz - I tried, I did! But all I got were broken links.
Do those links I posted work?
no. Spend a minute or 2, and go to photobucket. strike membership, or at tiny pic. also works well. Then, uploda your photo - you can simply drag and drop - then click on uploaded pi. to the right of it, you will see 4 different types of links. click on one that says image code. it will automatically copy it for you. go back here and paste it.
have my word - more and more pages of everyone's guess is not worth one decent picture.

Well yeah, so you screwed up a bit. We all have.
Anywhoo...
If it were my van, and the repairs could be done merely for the price of the parts, I'd fix it. That's assuming there is no frame damage that cannot be fixed simply by replacing parts.
Are there any "U-Pull-It Salvage Yards" in your area? I have several local ones that I walk through on a regular basis, and have snagged a lot of cheap parts for cars I've rebuilt.
Any money you can get from your friend will be a bonus, though I'd bet you won't get much.
In the end, if you can get your van fixed and on the road again - and can do so for very little money - you're money ahead.

Sorry, brother. That was not intended. Lecturing. Get the pictures going and let's take a good look at it.
