I wouldn't buy a rental just my opinion and it is based on how I drive my own cars and the ones I rented. I drive very gently so even when I was rough with rentals that was no abuse but I see a lot of people drive much worse than I do so God only know what they do when they go and rent one.
Having worked for various rental agencys I would not buy an ex rental either, I can't tell you how many times "maintenance" was pushed to the back burner because they were low on cars. These cars get beat on my people that rent them as well as employees. J turns in the parking lot, brake stands, burnouts, Oil changes that get down 3 months late. Cars rented out with leaking/busted heater cores.
LOTS of used car dealerships are use cars. I know Carmax gets a lot of their cars from Enterprise. I have met several people who have gotten used rentals from Enterprise, and they are generally all positive. I believe they give a warranty also.
I guess I'm missing something here I drive the hell out of my Mazda like I'm mad at it all day long, but abuse it? No I take good care of it & it has 166,000 on it & counting. So what do some of you mean by abuse?

Is so hard for you to read a WHOLE thread that those from post #s 6, 9, and 12 need to repeat themselves personally for you?
Nine out of ten late model cars for sale probably are ex-rentals today. Short term leases faded away during the early recession affecting the supply of off-lease late model cars.
way high. Maybe 2 out of 10 are.. That said i would not buy one because I know for a fact most are abused to every inch of their lives.. but.. I do know people who have bought past rentals and they lasted another 150k miles.
I guess I am a wuss!! I am very careful as it would be like my own car. I am always scared that I will damage it and then they will come back at me for more money. I also drive carefully not to waste gas. I guess I am in the minority. BTW, last time I rented was a Fiat 500. It was interesting but I wonder what that car will be like in a few years. The Fiats of old seemed like they self destructed within a couple years.
